The Orton-Gillingham Difference

Unlike generic tutoring, Structured Literacy targets the root causes of reading difficulty through six interconnected principles.

Structured & Sequential

Skills are introduced in a logical order, building from simple to complex. No gaps, no guessing — just clear, scaffolded progress.

Multisensory Learning

We engage visual, auditory, and kinesthetic channels simultaneously so new patterns stick more deeply and transfer to real reading.

Explicit & Systematic

Nothing is left to chance. Every rule and pattern is directly taught, practiced, and reviewed — over and over until it becomes automatic.

Cumulative Review

Each lesson builds on prior lessons. Concepts are revisited regularly to ensure retention and build fluency across the long term.

Diagnostic & Responsive

We continuously assess where each student is and adjust instruction in real time, ensuring your child is always working at the right level.

Reading Tutoring FAQ

Orton-Gillingham is a structured, sequential, multisensory reading method designed specifically for students with dyslexia and reading difficulties. It directly teaches phonics, spelling, and fluency through simultaneous visual, auditory, and kinesthetic engagement.
Signs include difficulty rhyming, slow or labored reading, trouble spelling familiar words, and letter/word reversals. We conduct an informal screener to help identify patterns and recommend appropriate next steps.
Many students show measurable gains within 2–3 months of consistent 1–2x weekly sessions. Progress depends on the severity of the reading difficulty and frequency of practice at home.
Yes. We specifically address the skills assessed on the Ohio Reading Guarantee and help students build the foundational literacy needed to pass with confidence.
Absolutely. Reading and spelling instruction is effective at any age. We work with high school students, college students, and adults who want to strengthen their literacy skills.

All Types of Dyslexia & Dysgraphia

Dyslexia is not one-size-fits-all. Our diagnostic approach identifies which type your child has so instruction targets the right deficit.

Phonological Dyslexia

The most common type. Difficulty breaking words into sounds and matching them to letters. Students struggle to sound out unfamiliar words.

Surface Dyslexia

Difficulty recognizing familiar words by sight. Students struggle with irregularly spelled words and read slowly, sounding out every word.

Rapid Naming (RAN) Dyslexia

A deficit in speed of naming letters, numbers, colors, or objects in sequence. Impacts reading fluency and speed more than accuracy.

Visual-Spatial Dyslexia

Difficulty processing what is seen on the page — letter reversals (b/d), losing place, or words appearing to blur or move.

Double Deficit Dyslexia

A combination of phonological processing deficits and naming speed deficits — often resulting in more severe difficulties requiring intensive intervention.

Dysgraphia

Significant difficulty with writing — illegible handwriting, poor spelling, and struggles organizing thoughts on paper. Often co-occurs with dyslexia and ADHD.

Not sure which type your child has?

We conduct an informal diagnostic screening at the start of every engagement to identify the right approach before instruction begins.
